The Eastern Suffolk BOCES Enrichment Services Department is excited to announce that we are offering a Summer Enrichment Leadership Institute for high school students utilizing Franklin Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and Leader in Me curriculum hosted at the Bayport-Blue Point School District this summer!
Participants must register for all 6 weeks to be eligible to participate. This program is open to all students attending high school as of September 2023 and will be the pre-requisite for the anticipated Junior Counselor-in-Training program to be offered in the summer of 2024. In addition, students can earn community service hours through the creation of a personal leadership project that will help impact their communities. This Leadership Institute class is limited to 25 participants, so it is recommended that parents register early to ensure a spot for their teen.
Parents typically register and pay on their own, however, districts can sponsor registrations. Please see the attached flyer for additional details. Feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions or contact the Enrichment Services team at:

NYS PTA and MHANYS are collaborating to offer Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) over the next several weeks. There is still time to register for this training.
YMHFA is skill-based and teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge. We will teach you a 5-step Action Plan to recognize warning signs, provide help, and understand where to turn to for additional assistance.
This training requires that you complete 2-hours of online (self-paced) pre-work prior to the scheduled instructor-led training. You must register for a course using the link below and choose the date or dates that you will attend. The instructor-led training is an interactive and participation-dependent online training. This is not a webinar. You will be asked to be on camera and present for the duration of the training to successfully complete the course.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with sfisher@mhanys.org.

Attention PTAs/PTSAs: Have Your School and Students On The Radio!
“Spotlight on Long Island Schools” on LI News Radio highlights Long Island schools, students, teachers, and, yes, PTA activities that promote school pride moments and communicate school messages through thought-provoking interviews and discussions with school officials and educational leaders and advocates.
This is a service that N-SSBA offers member districts as a truly unique experience to positively promote/share something unique or special about your district with those outside of your area. After the show airs your school district receives a copy of the show – a great way to promote electronic newsletters or other electronic media outlets! Press Release 4/4/2023 - STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR KATHY HOCHUL ON LATEST SCHOOL 'SWATTING' THREATS
"More than 50 school districts across New York have received disturbing 'swatting' threats today including in Central New York, Long Island, the Southern Tier and the North Country. I want to reassure parents that their children are safe at school - swatting threats are false and intended to cause panic and scare students, teachers and families.
"I have directed the New York State Police to investigate these threats and work closely with all levels of law enforcement to identify the perpetrators, hold them accountable, and restore the sense of safety and security our children deserve. Since the first round of swatting incidents occurred last week, State Police has been working closely with the State Education Department, county leadership and local school boards to provide support and any necessary resources to address these incidents. My top priority will always be the safety of New Yorkers."
